Present Perfect

GAMMAR 1

PRESENT PERFECT

A. Complete the sentences. Use the present perfect form of the verb in parentheses.



  1. Maggie (have)  has had her pet snake, Boris, since she was 10 years old.
  2. I (know)  have known Jin since the first day of school. He's become a really good friend.
  3. What a long meeting! Paul and Chris (be) have been in that room for 4 hours.
  4. Sam left around noon. He (not be) hasn't been here for about 3 hours.
  5. I (not see) haven't seen my family since February. I really miss them!
  6. I really need a vacation. I (not go) haven't gone anywhere for a long, long time.
B. Write sentences about yourself or about people you know. Use the present perfect. Write 2 positive and 2 negative sentences. Here are some ideas: like (a sport or a food), speak (a language), know (someone), know how (to do something), live (somewhere), be (somewhere), see (someone), do (something)

  1. I have practiced english language on University of tolima's language center for al long, long time.
  2. Julian has known how to create web applications since he was 19 years old.
  3. I haven't known another girl since I let her go.
  4. I haven't been in Medellin - Colombia for about 3 years ago.

PRESENT PERFECT AND PAST TENSE

A. Complete the sentences. Use the simple past or present perfect form of the verbs in parentheses. Sometimes 2 answers are possible.

  1. (see, rent) We've seen this film before. Don't you remember? We rented it last month
  2. (live, move) I love new York. I have lived here all my life. My famili moved here in the 1950s.

  5. (alsways go, decide) The Arnellos have always gone to florida for their summer vacation. This year they decided to go to Mexico for a change.
B. Complete the sentences. Use the correct form of the verbs in the box. Somethimes both the simple past and present perfect are correct. Use the prsent perfect if possible.

REVIEW OF VERB TENSES

Complete the profile of actress Keira Knightley. Use the correct form of the verb in parentheses.

Keira Knightley is part of a nwe generation of British actors. She has now (1) become as famous as anyone in Hollywood.
keira (2) was born in the south of England in March 1985. She (3) appeared in her first firlm when she (4) was only seven, and she (5) has already made more than 20 films.
As a young teenager, she (6) wanted to be a dancer, but her life (7) changed when she (8) won a part in the film Star Wars at the age of 12.
Keira (9) has not gone to college. However, she (10) has done well in her "A Level" (final) exams in high school, even though she (11) has played her first big role in Bend It Like Beckham at the same time.
