In the Future, Warehouse Robots Will Learn on Their Own
BERKELEY, Calif. — The robot was perched over a bin filled with random objects, from a box of instant oatmeal to a small toy shark. This two-armed automaton did not recognize any of this stuff, but that did not matter. It reached into the pile and started picking things up, one after another after another.
“It figures out the best way to grab each object, right from the middle of the clutter,” said Jeff Mahler, one of the researchers developing the robot inside a lab at the University of California, Berkeley...

As Amazon Pushes Forward With Robots, Workers Find New Roles
FLORENCE, N.J. — Nissa Scott started working at the cavernous Amazon warehouse in southern New Jersey late last year, stacking plastic bins the size of small ottomans. It was not, she says, the most stimulating activity. And lifting the bins, which often weigh 25 pounds each, was also tiring over 10-hour shifts.
Now Ms. Scott, 21, watches her replacement — a giant, bright yellow mechanical arm — do the stacking.
Her new job at Amazon is to babysit several robots at a time, troubleshooting them when necessary and making sure they have bins to load. On a recent afternoon, a claw at end of the arm grabbed a bin off a conveyor belt and stacked it on another bin, forming neat columns on wooden pallets surrounding the robot. It was the first time Amazon had shown the arm, the latest generation of robots in use at its warehouses, to a reporter..

Multi-user experiences with A-Frame
Multi-user experiences on the Internet have come a long way since the
emergence of online chat and the rise of social networks. Advances in
virtual reality are making the Web a more immersive and interactive
environment. Neal Stephenson envisioned this set of shared, persistent,
and interconnected 3D virtual spaces and called it the metaverse; today we are building it with HTML, JavaScript, and A-Frame.

Tesla switches from NVIDIA to Intel for its infotainment systems
It'd represent a big shift in how Tesla handles your in-car experience.
Ever since Tesla took the wraps off the Model S, its electric cars have had NVIDIA hardware powering the infotainment system and the giant touchscreen that controls it. However, it's apparently breaking with tradition: Bloomberg sources hear that the automaker has switched to Intel. Reportedly, the Model 3 and new versions of other cars will be the first to make the leap. It's not certain what prompted the move (Intel, NVIDIA and Tesla have all declined to comment), but it's a huge coup if true.
